Description
High-pressure unions are widely used in the oil industry, it is the connection of Armored hose and wellhead equipment and mastering their common types and specifications is crucial. Whether in field operations or during job preparation, familiarity with them is crucial to avoid errors. The most commonly used union types in the oil industry are: 1502, 1002, 1003, and 602. Below is a brief introduction to these union types.
1. 1502 Union: The 1502 union is rated at 15,000 PSI NSCWP (Non-Shock Cold Working Pressure) and tested to 22,500 PSI. It is recommended for cementing, fracturing, acidizing, testing, plugging, and killing pipelines. It can also be used for pressureless connections, using a butt-weld Sch. XXH design. It features a replaceable, flexible nitrile rubber seal and a robust, thick-walled design suitable for high-pressure systems.
2. Type 1002 Union: The Type 1002 union is rated at 10,000 PSI NSCWP and tested at 15,000 PSI. It is recommended for cementing, fracturing, acidizing, and plugging and killing pipelines. It is also used in high-pressure systems, including those onboard vehicles. It can also be used as a pressure-free sealing union, using butt-weld Schedule 160 or XXH connections. It is equipped with a resilient nitrile rubber sealing ring.
3. Type 1003 Union: The Type 1003 union is rated at 10,000 PSI NSCWP (7,500 PSI NSCWP, 4-inch and 5-inch sizes). It is recommended for connecting high-pressure pipelines where alignment is critical. It can be used in air, water, oil, mud, or gas applications. The union features a spherical seat that provides 7.5 degrees of off-center deflection or angle adjustment, for a total deflection capacity of 15 degrees. In addition to the steel-to-steel fit, a nitrile rubber O-ring ensures a leak-tight connection in any deflected position.
4. Type 602 Union: The Type 602 Union has a rated pressure of 6000 psi NSCWP and a test pressure of 9000 psi. It is recommended for cementing, fracturing, acidizing, testing, plugging, and killing pipelines. It can also be used for pressureless sealing connections and adopts butt welding Sch. XXH. It is equipped with a replaceable elastic nitrile rubber sealing ring and a strong wall thickness design for high-pressure systems.
